FAQ

What do I need to run Gym Jockey?

An iPhone on iOS 26 or 27. For music, Apple Music is the best experience; without it, built-in clips work fine — and if you’d rather train in silence with just the voice guidance, that works too. For heart-rate features, an Apple Watch or a Bluetooth chest strap. The app checks all of this before your first session and guides you through anything missing — including installing Apple’s higher-quality voices, which are otherwise buried six levels deep in Settings.

Do I need Apple Music?

No. It’s the richest clip experience (including community-shared clips), but built-in clips ship with the app, and you can also record a cadence in your own voice.

Do I need an Apple Watch?

No. The phone experience is complete on its own — headphone controls, Lock Screen, Live Activity. The Watch is a remote for people who want their wrist involved.

What about Spotify?

Being investigated for v2 — honestly, no promises. The clip mechanic depends on precise seek-and-loop playback, and that’s harder outside Apple Music. Built-in clips work regardless of where your music lives.

Android?

No, and there are no plans — Gym Jockey is built natively on Apple’s stack (iCloud, Watch, Apple Music) and wouldn’t survive the translation.

Does Siri always work?

Honestly: Siri is Siri — it’s occasionally finicky, which is why voice is positioned as a bonus, not the backbone. The primary control is a headphone-button press (“Gym Jockey, log ten reps”), and Playgrounds exist precisely so you can build trust in the controls before a real workout depends on them.

Are the Coach voices included?

There’s no library of celebrity trainers, no synthetic hype-man. The Announcer uses Apple’s text-to-speech. The Coach voice is you or your actual coach — recorded, real. That’s the point.

Are notes required? Who writes them?

Entirely optional, and empty by default. Nothing is pre-written — the notes system contains exactly what you (or your coach) put into it, and nothing speaks unless you’ve configured it to.

What happens to my data if I stop paying?

You drop to the free tier and keep the core training loop and full export. Your data is in your own iCloud either way — nothing is held hostage, ever.

Can I bring my Hevy data?

Yes — see Switching.
